In my design, the Kathak House, I focused on my client’s passion for Kathak dancing and her affinity for reading and meditating. I evoked these two very different functions and created this two piece building that acts as both a miniature dancehall, complete with full wall-mirrors, and a room meant for keeping noise out, and the quiet inside.
Every piece of this project was meticulously planned to fit my client’s past, present and future needs. The materiality involved brushed red brick in an ashlar random run as my client had stated her infatuation with brick and mortar family shops and how this evoked a feeling of home and creativity.
I made up for the lack of light during the winter by integrating light scoops in both rooms, this allows for the integration of light even when there is not much in the first place.
